Program Conditions
1. All tuition for the projected number of scheduled hours of instruction is payable in advance at the beginning of each calendar month.
2. Each lesson lasts one hour, which includes a five-minute break.
3. The minimum class time for Private Tutoring, Business, and Visitor Groups is one hour. The minimum class time for Community Groups is two hours. Any agreed-upon additional class time is charged at half-hour intervals.
4. 4.166% Hawai'i State Excise Tax is included in all tuition rates.
5. Charges for study materials are not included.
6. There is no charge for an initial one-time interview. This interview is highly recommended as it includes informal learner language proficiency and goal assessments. Also, interested students will be better able to determine whether Maui International Language School meets their needs.
7. Charges for the administration and scoring of standardized criterion- or norm-referenced tests are the same as for regular class instruction.
8. Business-sponsored classes: formal initial and interim needs assessments are required to ensure that the curriculum is designed, based on, and aligned with the goals of the sponsoring business and prospective class participants in mind. Charges for needs assessments are based on the prevailing rates for one-on-one private tutoring.
9. Supplemental services: the time needed to provide services related to and necessary for educational case management (including reporting), as well as for necessary preparation and research for specialized instruction, is charged at the prevailing rates for one-on-one tutoring.
10. Travel charges or longer minimum class times may apply to instructional sites outside of Kihei and Wailea. Travel charges or longer minimum class times are set on a case-by-case basis.
11. There is no charge for private tutoring cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. If 2 or 3 students are being tutored, all must agree to the cancellation; otherwise, all students will owe tuition. Tutoring cancelled after the 24-hour deadline is payable for the full amount of scheduled class time.
12. Community Groups may not be cancelled by the students. Absences during scheduled classes are payable in full.
13. Tuition for Community Groups must be paid in advance for an entire calendar month. Tuition for students joining a group after the beginning of the month will be pro-rated for the remainder of the month.
14. Tuition for Community Groups paid for the current month is not refundable.
15. Visitor Group rates apply to short-term contract programs designed for tourists. Rates for classroom instruction also pertain to time spent together outside of the classroom as part of any travel arrangements.
16. Payments must be made by cash, check, or money order.
17. There is a $25 service charge on all returned checks.
18. Students under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present while in class, unless the instructional setting is determined to be properly supervised.
19. Contracting businesses, organizations, and individual students will hold harmless and release from any and all liability Maui International Language School and its employees or agents for expenses, claims, losses, or damages incurred in the course of participation in or transportation to events that are held subject to collective agreement by all participants.
20. All client information is strictly confidential. The release of client information requires written permission from the client unless required by the terms of business-sponsored programs or law.
21. Tuition for online instruction includes the use of venues such as analog, VOIP, and cellular phones.
